Onions and such

Okay, I might be a little bit dead. ;^) Our company has all gone home now and soon school will start in ernest. That means I'll get a few minutes to myself each week to update you on the garden goodness.

I will have to say that this year has been a difficult one in the garden and I'll try to tackle each issue shortly. Can you say cold wet weather? Infestations of worms, aphids and ants? Green tomatoes? It's all rather pathetic really.

And just because what fun is a post without a picture... the onions are all harvested now. They're so very pretty and tasty even if they were quite small this year.

You have a few good size onions in there! Mine were all small, but we used every one of them! I understand your garden woes! We have had a lot of above average temps this year, it doesn't make for good gardening either! Another year is coming upon us for a whole new start to our gardens!

Jenn,
Long ago we finished off the onions. Sorry about the wet summer, we always are bone dry here, wish we could trade.

Small!!?? What planet are you on? Those are larger than anything I've ever pulled out of the garden. You can count me in a jelous.

You are not alone when it come to a pathetic garden this year which you can see from my posts and lack of posts. Your onions look great. I also had a good year for onions this year... that and pole beans. Well there is always next summer. Good to see you posting.

Your onions look great, and still much bigger than most of the onions I harvested this year. I've read a lot of garden bloggers complaining about onions not sizing up properly this year. As a first year gardener, I have no idea why, but if it's affecting so many gardeners, maybe there was some sort of an area-wide problem in the US? Hmm.

Shawn Anne - I'll be glad when El Nino is over.... it's wreaked havoc on everyone! From dry weather to too much rain and coolness. I hope next year is better for us both.

Randy - I'd be glad to balance out our weather... if only a trade were possible!

Ribbit - You are too kind. There were few that were decent size but most of them were good as broiler onions! Not enough sunshine here unlike sunny Florida!

Liisa - Poll beans were generous despite the unusual weather... glad to hear that you had a good harvest. +)

Thyme - It was pretty cloudy this year which makes me think that we didn't get enough sunshine to reach full onion potential this year... onions are generally dependent on hours of daylight for optimal growth.
