Garlic and Basil

Pulled all the basil out of the garden today to either make pesto or just to blend with oil and freeze... depends on how motivated I'm feeling.

Also planted two (new to me) different varieties of garlic, Inchelium Red and Spanish Roja. They went into a different spot then last year. Hopefully I won't have the same fungal issues I experienced last spring with these kinds. Still looking for the "perfect" variety.

So, do you soak and peel your garlic? I'm intrigued at everyone's different approaches, because my garlic is on the way.

It would seem that I am the only gardener not planting garlic right now. We just don't eat it.

LOL... you can soak and peel them? Nope. I just plunked them in the ground and am hoping for the best. I suppose I should've done a wee bit of research on the best way to plant but life is just nutso right now. I haven't seen my garden or my computer in an age so the fact that I had a few minutes to not only get a little dirt under my nails but to blog about it too is a joyful bonus.

BTW it really means a lot to me that you guys still check in even though I've totally been MIA. ((hugs))

Jenn,

We planted somewhere around 30 garlic bulbs last week. We just used farmers market garlic and spent maybe $2 on it. Don't know the names but there are a few different kinds. One Meg's ex has planted for years it is very strong but hard to peel IMO.

I planted my garlic this week too! It's my first attempt, so I'm anxious.

I thought about buying another variety of garlic this year, but my current varieties did well enough in a bad year. I'm hoping next year is better.

I planted my garlic yesterday. Last year I bought supermarket garlic and planted some. Harvested nice size heads. So, this year I am planting from my own grown!
