One Mud Monkey's Adventure in Organic Gardening “Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas.” -Elizabeth Murray
It's never an issue with a control freak like me ;) I just can't stand to see those out of place weeds! Of course I am on top of it in the vegetable garden than the flower beds. But they still don't look bad either.
I have to keep my garden weeded, because if I ever got behind I'd never catch up. I find 10-15 minutes a day, hoe in hand, walking from one end of the vegetable garden to the other, is sufficient to weed, examine and harvest. On the other hand, my flower beds are a mess!
What motivates me to weed is the feeling that the weeds are gaining on me. Right now I am in a state where I can stay ahead of them. I've been in the overwhelmed by weeds state in the past, and it was very unpleasant. The only reason why I am ahead of it now is because I moved.

Um, weeds? Really, I try to get to them but there are always patches that are holdouts. Your flowers are quite lovely.
